Free ring sizer apps and tools: what is actually free?

Published · App comparisons · by Ring Sizer

For a single ring-size estimate or conversion, a free calibrated browser tool may be enough. For repeated measurements with useful notes, consider a sizing app, but check its free limits before installing. Free to download does not mean every feature is free. Neither a browser nor an app replaces checking the intended ring’s physical fit.

A search for a free ring sizer can lead to a downloadable app, a browser circle, a printable sheet or a retailer’s fitting kit. Those are different tools, even when the results all show a US size. The useful comparison is what you can finish without paying, and whether that job is the one you actually have.

Publisher disclosure: this is the Ring Sizer website. We publish the app discussed below and benefit when readers choose it. This is a source-based comparison, checked on 18 October 2026, not an independent ranking or a hands-on accuracy contest. Prices, access and store offerings can change by version and country.

Start with the job, not the word free

If a jeweller has already given you an inside diameter, your job may only be converting units. Installing a camera app adds little to that task. Use the free website converter, identify the input as diameter or circumference, and compare the result with the seller’s chart. Keep the original number instead of replacing it with a rounded size label.

If you have a round ring that fits the correct finger, you need a way to compare its inner opening with a physically checked scale. A browser can do that without an app installation. Our on-screen ring sizer includes the calibration and measurement workflow. A photograph of an uncalibrated circle is not an equivalent substitute.

Consider whether you can comfortably operate the chosen tool as well. A small slider may be awkward to adjust while holding a ring steady; a large desktop display may be inconvenient to lay an existing ring on safely. Those are practical reasons to use a different setup, ask for help or choose a physical gauge. They are not evidence that a particular brand is inaccurate. The right workflow should let you see the reference clearly and repeat the placement without pressing jewellery against the glass.

If you are comparing several fingers, buying two wedding bands or returning to the same measurement later, record-keeping becomes part of the job. That is when a dedicated app may be more convenient than a one-time browser result. Convenience still needs to be weighed against the cost, storage limits and the amount of information you actually need to retain.

A shortlist of free and free-to-download options

The table is a decision aid, not a best-to-worst league table. The first two rows are our products; the next two are independent alternatives. A missing feature claim is not a claim that the feature does not exist. Check the linked source for the exact release you use.

If you already have a working method, do not replace it just because another search result uses a stronger adjective.

Which parts of Ring Sizer are useful without an upgrade?

Start on the website if you only need a reference value. You can compare sizing systems or use the calibrated on-screen tool before deciding whether an installed app solves an additional problem. The website also has printable A4 and Letter references for an existing ring. Those require a verified print scale; a download alone does not establish it.

The Android listing describes measurement tools, six-system conversions and saved notes. Its free version stores up to three measurements, with optional Premium for unlimited records. The iPhone listing also discloses in-app purchases. Do not apply the Android allowance to iPhone without checking that version’s current offer.

An illustrative Android use case is one record for your left ring finger, one for your right and one for a partner’s intended finger, with their permission. That is a small, defined task. A collection of repeated readings across many dates is a different requirement, so review storage and export options before making it your only record. A plain note is still a valid place to preserve the measurements.

Free download, free trial and free result are different promises

A store’s installation price does not describe every later action. An app can be free to install while some saved records, exports, previews or other functions require a purchase. A time-limited trial is also different from an ongoing free allowance. Read the current purchase screen rather than inferring the terms from the word free in a search snippet.

Before paying, write down the specific action you need: save a second person, retain several dates, convert a diameter or preview a style. Then check whether that action is available in the release you installed. This avoids upgrading for an attractive feature that does not answer the sizing question in front of you.

You do not need to make an in-app purchase merely to accept or reject a fit. A suitable physical sample may be the more useful next step, especially for a custom ring or an expensive design. If the seller can supply an appropriate fitting set, ask about that option and its terms before spending money on more digital readings.

Compare the measurement, not just the displayed size

Suppose two tools show US 7. That agreement does not prove that both used the same scale, measured the correct opening or applied the same table. You may have repeated the same setup error twice. Record what went into the tools and whether either result was rounded to a nominal row.

For an illustrative round opening of 17.0 mm, circular circumference is about 53.4 mm because circumference equals diameter multiplied by pi. Those are two descriptions of one opening, not two independent measurements. A tool that maps to its nearest size row may show a slightly different nominal diameter when you convert the label back.

If the tools disagree, return to the raw value. Recheck calibration, placement, viewing angle, whether you included the metal and whether the chosen input was diameter or circumference. Our calibration explanation covers this diagnostic step. Switching between apps until one shows the number you hoped for does not resolve the disagreement.

What if you have no existing ring?

An empty screen does not become a finger gauge just because you place your finger over a circle. A finger’s width in a photograph also does not establish its circumference. Choose a tool that matches the information available, rather than trying to make a convenient interface measure something it was not set up to measure.

A non-stretch paper strip can give you a preliminary circumference record when used with a physical ruler. Keep the reading separate from any existing-ring diameter and check the joint that the finished band must pass. The finger-measurement guide explains the method and its limits without assuming the paper behaves like a rigid ring.

For a wedding band, ask for a fitting sample close to the planned width and inner profile. Our couples’ record workflow helps organize that conversation; it does not infer one partner’s size from the other. A free estimate can help you prepare, but it should not force a final order when the fit is still unresolved.

Photos and privacy deserve a separate decision

A size conversion needs a number, not a photograph of your hand. If that is your only task, you can choose a workflow that does not involve creating or sharing an image. When an app offers a photo or AI preview, read that feature’s explanation separately from the measurement screen and decide whether the image is needed.

Our Android listing distinguishes saved on-device measurement material from images a user chooses to send for an optional AI preview. That does not establish the practices of another product, and a store privacy label is a disclosure rather than an independent audit. Check the current policy and consent screen for each service you use.

Keep another person’s records only with their permission and share the minimum details a seller needs. A measurement note can identify the intended hand and finger without including a home address, a face photograph or an unrelated order history. Read sizing versus virtual try-on if you are unsure which photo features are relevant.

A sensible free-tool decision

For a single conversion, use a clear chart or converter. For a ring you can safely lay flat, try a calibrated browser comparison. For measurements you want to revisit, evaluate a native app’s records and current limits. If a simple note already serves that purpose, an installed app is optional rather than an upgrade you must make.

Before ordering, make sure you can explain the result in one sentence: which finger and hand, which physical measurement, which units, which method and what remains uncertain. Compare the seller’s table and fitting samples with that record. The online buying checklist can help you check the order itself.

The best free choice is the one that completes your present job honestly. There is no need to award a universal winner across browsers, apps, printouts and physical samples. They can be used together, and the appropriate endpoint is a wearable ring, not the largest collection of matching numbers on a phone.
